Detect IV

Preventing IV infiltration — when an intravenous connection leaks into surrounding tissue, potentially causing serious problems — requires a healthcare professional to constantly monitor IV devices.

Detect IV, out of Georgia Tech, is creating a system of sensors to monitor IV infiltration at the point of IV injection. The system uses bioimpedance spectroscopy, motion and temperature sensing, making the device more vigilant and accurate than manual checks.

Approximately 30 million incidents of IV infiltration occur in the U.S. every year.
