Ground Control Robots

Many sectors of the economy are pursuing the use of autonomous robots to accomplish repetitive tasks with little human effort. Agriculture is one, although creating robots that can navigate the varied landscape of farms and fields poses a challenge.

Ground Control Robotics, launched out of Georgia Tech, is innovating robotic movement by studying how living organisms like centipedes move about on land. The company’s robots can move in any direction using nimble limbs and undulating body segments; it can even swim up to moderate depths. Sensors allow the robots to independently survey an environment and discern the best means of getting around.

The robots hold promise not just for agriculture but for other sectors with an unmet need for autonomous robots.
