Small Animal Imaging Shared Resource in the Georgia Cancer Center

Augusta University Systems Imaging

Small Animal Imaging has been commissioned to provide a wide range of imaging and radiation treatment resource for animal research. The preclinical services are translational in operation while remaining innovative in the advancement of basic research.

The Georgia Cancer Center facility conducts state-of-the-art neuroimaging studies involving computed tomography (CT), single positron emission computed tomography (SPECT), Bioluminescence Imaging, magnetic resonance (MR) imaging, and Small Animal Radiation (SARRP) services as well as self-serve X-Irradiators. The small animal imaging center operates a 7 Tesla Bruker BioSpec 70/20 USR Magnetic Resonance Imaging System.

With Avance III electronics and 4 receiver channels the system is capable for both phased array imaging and parallel imaging. The system has an automated bed for animal positioning.

The Bruker software platform includes Paravision 6.0.1 with perfusion, diffusion, spectroscopy, susceptibility weighted and ultra-short echo time imaging packages.
